Farm-scrapers Bring 'Eco-vision' to Tall Buildings
Belgian firm Vincent Callebaut Architectures has released the design of sustainable "farm-scrapers." The Asian Cairns project is designed to produce more energy than it consumes by producing food and harnessing wind and solar power. The towers' forms are inspired by cairns, Neolithic stacks of stones used to create landmarks or religious sculptures. In the Asian Cairns, residential, office, agricultural and leisure spaces are stacked in the same way, designboom reports. The development, located in Shenzhen, China, is designed to cultivate hanging gardens, pod-farms and public orchards throughout the skyscrapers.
