Auckland Airport sustainability advisor Martin Fryer describes it as a fantastic result for the company which has, he says “worked very hard on producing a comprehensive sustainability policy and implementing an associated action plan over the past five years.”
The company set 41 targets across key business areas and achieved 73 per cent of these, says Fryer. This process gave it the advantage of a well documented track record when the investment indices came calling.
“They look for several years of performance data and how you are trending rather than just the past 12 months and we were able to put in a very comprehensive response.”
The report the company received shows where there is room for improvement and that will help provide the focus for not only maintaining but lifting its position on the Index, says Fryer.
Also featuring on the Index is the ANZ which has been ranked the most sustainable bank globally for the fifth time in six years. The bank’s “sustainable business practices, exceptional risk and crisis management procedures and strong focus on sustainable investment products” were listed as key to its leading position.
Amongst largest additions to the list in 2012 were Microsoft Corp and Hewlett-Packard while IBM, Mitsubishi and Dell were amongst those that departed it.
