LanzaTech in Mumbai licensing deal

LanzaTech ceo Jennifer Holmgren

NZ biofuel developer LanzaTech has announced it has signed its first commercial customer, licensing its technology to a Mumbai-based renewable energy investor.
LanzaTech chief Dr Jennifer Holmgren said LanzaTech had signed an agreement with Concord Enviro Systems (CES), which has a portfolio of waste to energy projects.
Through a subsidiary called Concord Blue, a German-Indian company, CES provides advanced gasification technology for syngas generation from a variety of waste streams.
LanzaTech technology will be used by CES to produce both power and fuels from municipal solid waste (MSW), an energy source which has increased 37 percent since 2007.
LanzaTech has a number of other deals in place in Asia, but they are joint venture deals to establish plants using the company’s technology, and partnership arrangements.
“CES gasification units convert a variety of feedstocks including MSW and bio-mass,” said Dr Holmgren.
“This collaboration will enable us to accelerate deployment of our technology utilising waste synthesis gas streams and is central to our mission of harnessing waste streams for the production of valuable fuels and chemicals.” She said the deal represented the company’s first sale in a key market.
