Introducing the solar-powered bikini with USB port

These days there’s all sorts of devices equipped with solar-powered technology—portable camping showers, radio, torches, even cars. But New York-based designer Andrew Schneider’s latest invention takes it to another level entirely. Introducing the Solar Bikini.

The bikini is made of 1" x 4" photovoltaic film strips that are sewn together in series with conductive thread. These are then retrofitted to an existing standard sized bikini. There’s even a USB sewn into the fabric.

In case you’re wondering “why?”, the purpose of the bikini is to enable the user to bathe in the sun as they listen to music on their (fully charged) ipod.

There’s also apparently a male version on its way, as Schneider states on his website.

“The male version of the Solar Bikini (coming soon) called the iDrink, features a greater surface area which equals more output voltage. This additional juice is used to power a 1.5 amp peltier junction which cools a single beer in a custom coozy.”
