Newlight Produces AirCarbon at Commercial Scale

Newlight Technologies says it has achieved commercial scale production of its AirCarbon carbon capture technology at a production site in California.

This shows the company can use carbon sequestration to make materials that can replace oil-based plastics and products, says Newlight CEO Mark Herrema.

Newlight uses air and captured methane-based carbon emissions from a farm to produce AirCarbon. In November, the company in conjunction with furniture maker Ki launched its first commercial product, AirCarbon-based chairs.

The company says AirCarbon will also be used to make food containers, automotive parts and even cellphone cases for Virgin Mobile.

With two facilities in California, Newlight plans to expand its carbon capture operations at other sites throughout the US, Europe and Asia.
